Successful Semester in Full Swing Healthy Respect brings its proven program to hundreds of high-needs New York students Healthy Respect is back in the classrooms this fall at public schools in Yonkers and Brooklyn, teaching abstinence in preparation for marriage to New York’s inner-city students. The New York program began its third year of operation last month, and will reach close to 800 students before semester’s end. Healthy Respect instructors work in three male-female teams in the classroom, and will teach 23 sessions of abstinence education to each class. The instructors are hired, trained and evaluated by Healthy Respect to ensure fidelity to the program’s curriculum and goals. “We are looking forward to another successful year and are pleased to have the opportunity to bring our positive message to so many students,” said John P. Margand, Esq., Executive Director of Healthy Respect. “The program provides a powerful countervailing message to students in our highly sexualized society, by providing healthy alternatives for young people based on self-esteem and long-term goals that will help them achieve better academic results and success in whatever they choose to do in life.” Healthy Respect will teach ninth and tenth graders at four high schools in Yonkers and Brooklyn this fall. The program will reach middle school students in both communities next spring.
